conversion of an apartment

Renovating an apartment in Chicago proved to be a particular challenge. The skyscraper with 29 floors was completed in 1955 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, directly on Lake Michigan, and is now a listed building. A characteristic feature is the floor-to-ceiling full glazing with the pre-faced steel girders on the outer sides.

A restrained renovation was desired (parquet flooring, light fixtures, painting), which, however, had to be reconciled with the conditions and requirements of the property management. For example, there were for material handling (parking, walkways, elevators, noise, etc.) a number of specifications that are best met by Highrise-certified contractors.
